Social Action Committee Information

Who are we?

The Social Action Committee of First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Medfield Massachusetts organizes opportunities for members of the congregation to participate in socially responsible activities and dialogs.

The committee meets once a month to plan and coordinate activities. There is no set agenda for the areas that the committee and the church are involved in. Periodically the committee surveys the church to find areas of interest.

The committee is of any size and can accommodate all church members who wish to be part of it. Normally the committee meets once a month in the evening, subject to scheduling. Meetings usually last about two hours.

Everyone is welcome to become involved with Social Action. You can check the newsletter, the church online calendar, and the weekly announcements for activities, or email the church administrator for more information.

 Renewal House

Renewal House is a domestic violence shelter in Boston for individuals in crisis and their children. There are volunteer activities on their Web site and we will be organizing more events in the future.

Renewal House is one of several projects run by the UU Urban Ministry, which works side-by-side with Boston's urban communities to create opportunities and instill hope for a brighter future.

Project Linus

Project Linus comprises hundreds of local chapters and thousands of volunteers across the United States. Each volunteer and local chapter all work together to help us achieve our mission which is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."

Project Bread

Project Bread is dedicated to alleviating, preventing, and ultimately ending hunger in Massachusetts. First Parish members participate in The Walk for Hunger, the oldest continual pledge walk in the country.  Members of First Parish provide English language instruction at the UUUM weekly.
