A warm welcome to you on behalf of the staff and congregation of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, Medfield’s oldest church dating back to 1651.
Ours is a liberal religion that has its roots in the Judaeo-Christian traditions. Here at First Parish we honor the religious questions that people have struggled with throughout the centuries, within many cultures.
We welcome young and old, families and singles, all the colors and cultures of the human race, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight people. Our differing strengths and gifts join together to make a vibrant, loving community.
First Parish is a vibrant place! We are enjoying steady increases in membership and currently serve members from the towns of Medway, Millis, Dover, Wrentham, Norfolk, and Walpole, in addition to Medfield.
Recently, we have made a significant commitment to modernizing our church building and grounds. Over the last few years we installed accessible bathrooms and an elevator to make our facility available to all who come.
First Parish is proud of the work it has done in developing a first-rate Religious Education Program for people of all ages. Curricula are carefully selected with the help of materials provided by the Unitarian Universalist Association. The children’s program is designed to provide an awareness of the Judaeo-Christian heritage as well as other world religions. Adult programs include a wide range of topics and encourage both learning and reflecting about life. Love and respect for all life, clarification of ethical and interpersonal values, and celebration of life’s rites of passage are all integral parts of the religious education program here at First Parish.
It is in the spirit of Unitarian philosopher and third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson who said, “It is in our lives and not from our words, that our religion must be read,” that the adults and children of First Parish work together on social action initiatives. These include: assisting with the food pantries that serve Medfield and surrounding towns, support for a local shelter for families in transition, collecting for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and other social justice organizations, and financial assistance to the UU Urban Ministry of Boston.
First Parish of Medfield has a lot of momentum as it enters this new church year. It has accomplished a lot yet still maintains a clear vision of the church community it can be. We invite you to join us in creating the history of this church that will be told by those who follow us. Share with us your joys and anxieties, your hopes and visions and may you find the community of your longing!
